Easter Bank Holiday weekend over. School half term break is ongoing.
If the life of a working parent is one filled with guilt, it is worse for a parent trying to start a new business. And if that wasn’t all, the onset of warm weather in this country makes it even worse.
There is a standing tradition that any primary school parent in London will testify to. The weather will have been dry the week before, and will probably be in the week after. But look up the weather app on the last day of term, and the week ahead will only have clouds and rain.
This week has had the warmest day of the year till now. Walking out with a fellow congregant from my local mosque, we laughed about how we endure the weather for three-quarters of the year, only to be blessed with what we are beginning to experience now. Were it not for the stark contrast, we wouldn’t appreciate the sun.
In a week like this, telling your kids that now’s not the time to go to the park feels almost criminal. It’s easier to do that for the rest of the year, when the weather is on your side.
“Too cold.” “It’s raining.” “The swings will still be wet.” “Windy.”
There’s that thing you’ve been working on which needs to be wrapped up before it’s time to start preparing dinner. That meeting tomorrow morning which needs to be prepped for. That report whose deadline was like yesterday.
The guilt about making an excuse wasn’t so much then, because it was a genuine one. But what about now?
