The first day of fasting has come to an end. As is customary, it involved a test of courage while navigating through the dastarkhwaan laid out for Iftar. I wanted to be left in a state where the casual stroll to the mosque for Maghrib prayers wouldn’t feel impossible.
The time between Maghrib and Ish’a stays difficult. Overcoming the urge to lie down on a full tummy to grab a quick shut-eye before Taraweeh, because you’re only saving yourself from the bigger effort to get out of bed which will be needed later on when it’s time.
Time flies during Ramadan, flying faster between Iftar and Sehri.
There will be the parathas, roghni rotis, the occasional nihari and qulcha, but what will stay a constant companion for Sehri is the humble Soot Pheni. Drowned in a bowl of sweet warm milk, that’s your quota of carbs, fat and protein for the day right there.
(This is the first in a series of food based posts which I plan to include this year on the blog. After all, what is this month without food.)
