Splitting the Atom – Massive Attack
The MySpace page of Massive Attack proclaims “If a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing slowly”. Wise words! A thought which in a greater probability might have been responsible for the creation of the musical genre we know as Trip Hop now. British electronic music duo, Daddy G and Mushroom, in the course of their musical journey spanning more than two decades have achieved phenomenal success, and etched a permanent mark for them in the electronic music scene. Of course, now they don’t really need to prove anything – their best work is probably already out there for years now. Their latest EP “Splitting The Atom” doesn’t make any effort to change that notion either. The title track featuring guest vocalist Horace Andy appears a bit too rooted into down tempo beats to make its presence felt. Martina Topley-Bird, however, comes out on top on “Psyche”, a track which true to its name, plays to a good extent with your mental state. And the wafting UFOs zipping across on “Bulletproof Rain” keep you occupied – briefly. We’ll have to wait till their next album to actually comment if this is the effect of age.
