Onepointnothing – Jalebee Cartel

Underground electronic music act Jalebee Cartel has been part of the alliance which has been leading the pack of Indian acts from the front for quite a few years now. Performing at some of the hottest venues across the world and India of course, they have amassed a fan following for themselves which makes their underground status seem dubious now. Which makes it a naturally conducive time for them to release their album ‘Onepointnothing’, which is a pure reaffirmation of the fact that they just might end up propelling themselves outwards from being labelled just underground. They have already given listeners a flavour of what’s inside with ‘Tough Cookie’ whose video has already been hitting high spots on the charts. Guitar riffs take centerstage on ‘Mirrors’ as the vocals transport you to an alternate dimension, while funky house beats take you into a completely different direction on ‘Apartment 88’. The subtle variations on ’33 Beyond a Hundred’ make way for vocals and sitar samples, which pick up as soon as you hit midway on ‘Fade Away’; not before you have experienced the insane energy of ‘Midnite Madness’, a fitting tribute with heavy emphasis on strings and percussion, to the creatures of the night who transcend into their alter egos at the stroke of midnight. Full of experiments which have blended together cohesively, the album has variations, both subtle and obvious, which hit you out of nowhere yet don’t sound incongruous.
